Myinvartsveri Clasic Route

PD (2A RUSS)

The classic route to Mount Kazbek is the most popular ascent path to the summit, climbed by thousands of alpinists each year.

While the route is technically quite straightforward, it requires good physical fitness and proper acclimatization.

For acclimatization, it is recommended to rest for one full day at Bethlemi Hut. On the rest day, a light hike to the Bethlemi Church is advisable — both as a mild physical activity and an opportunity to enjoy the views and surroundings.

Route

The route begins at Bethlemi Hut (meteorological station). From there, we head north, following the slope alongside the glacier. Shortly after departing the Meteo Station, we pass by a campsite — the Cross Camp — which we bypass and continue heading north.

After a short walk, we reach a section known as “Khmaura” (meaning “noise”), where frequent rockfall occurs. Therefore, wearing helmets is mandatory, and if necessary, crampons should be used. After passing through Khmaura, it is essential to rope up.

Next, we reach the glacier plateau, from where we take a northeast direction and traverse the western slope. Due to numerous crevasses, roped travel is required, as well as the use of crampons, and, if necessary, ice axes.

From the plateau, we ascend southward along a sloped section (incline approx. 25–35 degrees) and enter the saddle between the North and South summits.

From this saddle, we continue northward along an icy slope (approx. 35–40 degrees) and reach the summit.

Departure from Meteo Station: 2:00 AM
Route duration (from Bethlemi Hut to the summit): 8–10 hours
Descent: via the same route.
