Climbing In Sveri(Chiatura)

Sveri is one of the most popular and rapidly developing climbing destinations in Georgia, located in the Chiatura region.

Sveri is a village in the Chiatura Municipality with a population of around 750 people. As a climbing region, Sveri is relatively new, yet it already boasts a significant number of sport routes. Sector development began in 2018, and the area holds immense potential for both new climbing routes and various outdoor activities. Other Activities: Sveri is home to several historical fortresses, monasteries, and breathtaking landscapes. The surrounding area features lakes and waterfalls, offering great opportunities for boating and swimming during hot summer days.

Route

The access trail to the climbing sectors is fairly easy to find and navigate.


Most of the routes range from 10 to 25 meters in height, with difficulties ranging between 5a and 7c.

How to get there

The village of Sveri is located near the town of Chiatura, approximately 170 km from Tbilisi.


How to get there: You can get to Sveri by taking an intercity minibus from the Didube bus station in Tbilisi to Chiatura. From Chiatura, you can take a local minibus or a taxi to Sveri, which is about 15 km away. From the village bus stop, it is roughly a 400-meter walk to the climbing sector. Although the area is not fully marked, directional signs are provided: you will find a regional sign at the entrance of the village, and a "Climbing Zone" sign at the end of the village, from which the crags are just 50 meters away (see map).

If traveling by personal car, a high-clearance 4x4 vehicle is strongly recommended, as navigating the village roads without it can be challenging.


Accommodation: A great place to stay is the Sveri Adventure Camp, where you can choose to pitch a tent or stay in a cozy cottage.


Food and Supplies: It is highly recommended to buy your groceries in Chiatura, which features a local farmers' market, various shops, and bakeries offering freshly baked bread, khachapuri, and lobiani. Unfortunately, there are no grocery stores or markets in Sveri, so you must bring all your supplies with you. Drinking water is readily available from the clean and safe natural springs located within the village.

Best time to visit

Aside from winter, the ideal time for climbing in Sveri is from spring to autumn.


A large portion of the crags faces north, meaning they remain in the shade for most of the day (after 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM). As a result, climbing here is very comfortable even during hot summer days. However, during the colder months, conditions in Sveri become rather uncomfortable, so we recommend visiting the climbing sectors in Chiatura or Katskhi instead.
